Photography II: 05
Instructor: Solliday
Course Content:
Photography II at Forest Park is an upper level art course in 35mm photography. Students review, perfect and fine tune the basic photographic processes and skills with an emphasis on personal expression and creativity. Like Photography I, students will be exploring black and white photography as an art form. The history of photography will be offered with the study of major photographers, photographic imagery, photography for artistic communication and the major themes used by photographers. Ethical issues concerning photographic imagery will be explored. Students will maintain a portfolio for assessment and exhibition.

Course Expectation:
Photography is considered an upper level course at Forest Park. Students are expected to have some knowledge about the elements and the principles of design before they begin this course. Photography is very demanding in terms of time spent working outside of the class. Students will be required to do the majority of their shooting on their own time. Students will be introduced to the idea of developing a concentration for their photography. At the end of the school year students will present an organized portfolio that displays their best work from this course. This will require a great deal of time spent in the darkroom. Students will be allowed to come after school to use the darkroom.

Photo Assignments:
Students will receive several shooting assignments throughout the course of the year. Each assignment will have a specific due date after which work will not be accepted. Exceptions will be made for film that is accidentally ruined. (See section on make-up work for more information) Students will be expected to follow the objectives listed for each assignment. All photo assignments will be posted on the school fusion website.

Evaluation and Grading:
Students will be given specific guidelines for every assignment given. For example, they will be told what type of subject matter to shoot the type of film to use, print size and techniques. Students will also receive grades for the following tasks:
v     Developing film
v     Vocabulary quizzes
v     Tests
v     Prints
v     Contact sheets
v     Critiques
v     Research projects
Notebooks:
Notebooks are VERY important in this class. Each student will be required to compile a well-organized and complete record of exposure data, camera information, negatives and contact prints. Notebooks will be collected every quarter and students will receive a grade. These notebooks must be brought to class every day. They can also be left in the classroom along with all other supplies.
Make-up work:
Arrangements to make-up work missed due to an absence must be made within two days of returning to class. There are always situations in photography where problems arise. Film can get ruined any number of ways. Students will be required to re-do assignments that do not work the first time. Students must communicate with me first! We can figure out the problem and find a solution so that it does not happen again. After that I will give the student a new due date by which to get the work done. If a student chooses not to re-do any assignments, they will receive an F for that project.
